Recognition Turns One!
Although the RECOGNITION album in its entirety was not out on streaming platforms until November, 2021, the project was released directly to fans on January 22nd, 2021. Here are some highlights of its young life to date.

August 15, 2020
The RECOGNITION Kickstarter concludes. Overwhelming fan support allows Carolyn to incorporate a top-notch team, including Grammy Award-winning mixing engineer Richie Biggs.

January 22, 2021
RECOGNITION is released on carolynarends.com, rabbitroom.com, and Bandcamp. Initial reviews are very strong, with Jeremy Casella calling the project a “masterfully crafted stunner.”

January 24, 2021
BECOMING HUMAN, the first single from RECOGNITION, is released to streaming. Soulful backing vocals from The McCrary Sisters and a whimsical animated music video help tell the story.

February 26, 2021
When Amy Grant agrees to shoot a music video in support of her vocal on WITHOUT MUSIC, Justine Olawsky arranges a secret listener-supported GoodFundMe to surprise Carolyn with a video budget. Work on the WITHOUT MUSIC video begins.

March 19, 2021
TO CRY FOR YOU is released as the second single from RECOGNITION. The song - inspired by Carolyn’s own grief journey after the loss of her mother - strikes a major chord. Over 500,000 people watch and share a raw video of the song on Facebook.

April 18, 2021
As TO CRY FOR YOU continues to resonate with people, filmmaker The Arctic creates a second music video capturing various responses to the song. It marks the beginning of a productive year of collaboration between Arends and THE ARCTIC.

ALL FLAME is released to streaming platforms, and THE ARCTIC captures the song’s ethereal quality in an outdoor fireside performance for the music video.

Carolyn commissions Roberta Landreth to create artwork for 3 singles. She asks WEEKLY DIGEST members if they want t-shirts and they say YES!

GOD’S SPEED releases, and a light-hearted green screen video features cameos from Brian Doerksen and Ben Arends. Snailathon.com is launched!

“So I guess this is my song for the ones/Who keep singing as the world comes undone …”. The WITHOUT MUSIC video debuts, and the song is released to digital streaming platforms.

The LET LOVE LEAD YOU HOME video debuts, and the entire RECOGNITION album is released to streaming platforms. Additionally, a songbook is released at Carolyn’s site.

RECOGNITION makes UTR Media’s TOP 20 list for 2021, and listeners continue to discover the music as the project turns one year old.
